Alumex is committed to creating sustainable prosperity that brings long-term social and economic benefits to all stakeholders. To this end, all of our principles, initiatives, donations, and sponsorship programmes, are designed and extended for social events, in order to build a social and physical infrastructure that will enhance the quality of life for the community.

30 Eco–Friendly Years

A JOURNEY OF THREE DECADES CREATING A SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENT AND A PARADIGM SHIFT

Thirty years ago, we embarked on a journey with an aim to conserve our environment by introducing eco-friendly building materials. We commenced operations with a small capital base, as a private limited liability company with a five-inch extruder. Today we have grown to a new dimension by creating a paradigm shift by introducing eco-friendly building materials manufactured under world class standards.

 

Recycling and Environment

Alumex is committed to minimising the environmental impacts of all its activities such as extrusion and distribution; this involves examining our operations to identify environmentally friendly opportunities; minimising adverse consequences of our plants, equipment and processes by assessing implications in the design, purchase and commissioning phases, ensuring prevention measures are taken prior to operation; managing waste materials using the hierarchy of reduce/reuse/recycle, ensuring that any disposal will be to appropriate environmental standards. Alumex is also investigating the potential use of recycled materials into a range of products.

Alumex believes that skilled, dedicated and disciplined people are essential to create a successful business. With this in mind, Alumex constantly invests in development, training and career development for both personal and professional growth. Alumex promotes a work/life balance with employees and believes that flexibility is key to having happy, healthy and motivated employees.

 

Health and Safety

At Alumex, we always keep “Safety First” in our minds. This means the safety and well being of ourselves, our colleagues, customers, suppliers and anyone who deals with our business.

 

Giving to the Community

In order to develop educational capacities and self-employment opportunities for school leavers, Alumex has engaged with the Government Technical Colleges island-wide and provided them course materials to develop skilled fabrication technicians while improving quality of life. In addition to this, we contribute towards knowledge and skill improvements of lecturers at Government Technical Colleges.

 

NVQ Certification

We arranged the training centre free of charge on behalf of training institutes that have no resources to conduct exams and assess students for such certificates. Alumex facilitates skilled fabrication technician applicants to obtain NVQ certification by facilitating their fabricating skills. Fabricators and all testing materials associated with the assessments are provided by Alumex free of charge.

Scholarships and School Material for Children
During the year, we provided school bags, books and other stationery items for all school going children of employees at our annual get-together held in December 2018. Further, we awarded children of employees who had performed well at the Grade 5 scholarship exam, the GCE O/L exam and the GCE A/L exam..
School book donation to the Thalawa and Anandodaya Primary School at Meegassegama
We continually donating School bags, book, shoes and stationeries for all students of the Anandodaya primary school.

Safety Procedures at Alumex:

  • The well being of our employees and those working with us is of primary importance. It is the responsibility of all individuals to act in a responsible manner to achieve a safe and healthy workplace.

Use Aluminium instead of Wood and Save Environment.

“Forests cover 31% of the land area on our planet. They help people thrive and survive by, for example, purifying water and air and providing people with jobs; some 13.2 million people across the world have a job in the forest sector and another 41 million have a job that is related to the sector. Many animals also rely on forests. Eighty percent of the world’s land-based species, such as elephants and rhinos, live in forests. Forests also play a critical role in mitigating climate change because they act as a carbon sink—soaking up carbon dioxide that would otherwise be free in the atmosphere and contribute to ongoing changes in climate patterns.

But forests around the world are under threat, jeopardizing these benefits. The threats manifest themselves in the form of deforestation and forest degradation. The main cause of deforestation is agriculture (poorly planned infrastructure is emerging as a big threat too) and the main cause of forest degradation is illegal logging. In 2019, the tropics lost close to 30 soccer fields’ worth of trees every single minute.”

Aluminium is the best alternative for wood while wood adds old-world charm to an exterior, it is also unsustainable and needs continuous maintenance. Aluminum, stances as an effective and efficient alternative to real wood. Its innate characteristics make it cost effective, easy to maintain, durable, and safe for the environment.
